House Democrats, joined by just two Republicans, voted to recommend the Department of Justice hold former Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in criminal contempt for defying a lawful subpoena. In the middle of cooperating with the committee, Meadows seemingly buckled under pressure in fealty to the former president who attacked Meadows for claims made in his tell-all book.
Meadows’ decision to obstruct the investigation comes as the committee reports he has relevant information related to how events unfolded during the attack on the Capitol, including multiple texts from Fox News anchors and the former president’s own son urging him to take action to end the attack.
Now, Extremist House Republicans are cowering in fealty to the former president to cover up what happened in the Oval Office during that deadly, dangerous attack on our democracy by voting against holding Meadows accountable.
“House Republicans have made clear they’re not interested in learning who is responsible for and what led to the deadly January 6th attack on our democracy — they’re more interested in covering up Donald Trump’s attempt to steal an American election and that’s a disgrace,” said DCCC Spokesperson Chris Taylor. |
