Extremist House Republicans Vote to Shut Down the Government, Block Critical Infrastructure Investments

House Republicans voted against funding to keep the government open, lower costs for families, and unlock vital infrastructure investments

171 House Republicans voted last night to shut down the government, once again putting millions of Americans at risk by trying to block vital funding to help working families, and standing in the way of popular infrastructure investments to strengthen communities across the country.

House Republicans’ reckless vote to shut down the government would have also blocked funding to:

  • Reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act

  • Expand affordable housing

  • Boost our economic recovery

  • Bolster investments in public schools, high-speed internet, and job training

This extreme vote is just the latest proof that House Republicans have become too radical to govern for the American people, as they chose political gamesmanship over delivering real results for working Americans, schools, and communities in dire need of better infrastructure.

Thankfully, House Democrats passed this legislation to ensure Congress keeps working on behalf of the American people and delivering meaningful results.

DCCC Spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre

“House Republicans have shown once again they can’t be trusted to do what’s right for the American people. This extreme vote proves what kind of recklessness lies ahead for voters if the GOP were to regain power.”
