As Republicans desperately try to divert attention from their dangerous and extreme anti-abortion position, Kevin McCarthy is traveling to Michigan to try and rescue failing candidates like John Gibbs. After extremist Gibbs won the GOP nomination, Cook Political Report shifted its rating on MI-03 from “Toss Up” to “Lean Democrat”.
It makes sense why the GOP is sweating over this race: McCarthy himself has said this seat could determine the majority in Congress and now the combination of Gibbs’ radical, out-of-touch views and Hillary Scholten’s strength in this swing district puts Scholten in a strong position to flip this seat.
McCarthy is propping up Gibbs’ campaign and “backing him 100%” because he knows Gibbs will be a loyal supporter of Republicans’ dangerous agenda, including a nationwide abortion ban with no exceptions. McCarthy even stated that he would respect “every” extremist position Gibbs’ takes.
As reality closes in on Republicans’ “Red Wave” pipe dream, John Gibbs’ extreme MAGA agenda comes into focus as a major liability. Fundraising with Kevin McCarthy cements Gibbs’ intention to put party loyalty over what’s best for West Michigan.
