FACT CHECK: Cleveland Plain Dealer finds Three Lies in NRCC’s Ad Against Marcy Kaptur

A new fact check by the Cleveland Plain Dealer found THREE lies about Marcy Kaptur’s strong immigration and border security record in a campaign ad run by the NRCC and Derek Merrin — the latest sign that Republicans are running scared in OH-09.

GET THE FACTS:

  • Republicans claimed Kaptur was “horrible” on the border, when in reality, Kaptur has cast “numerous votes on border control spanning 1993 to 2024.”
  • Republicans claimed Kaptur has been “voting for open borders for 40 years,” when in reality, “Kaptur has supported immigration reform,”and voted for funding to support a Border Patrol workforce of 22,000 agents.
  • Republicans claimed Kaptur voted to “allow violent criminals to become citizens,” when in reality, Kaptur’s U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 “proposed a pathway to citizenship for qualifying undocumented immigrants,” but “disqualified applicants convicted of a felony or three qualifying misdemeanors.”

No amount of Republican lies can change the truth: Marcy Kaptur has dedicated her career to keeping Ohio families safe.

DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Republicans know they have a failed candidate in Derek Merrin, so they’ve resorted to peddling lies about Marcy Kaptur. Despite their shady attempts to pull the wool over Ohioans’ eyes, voters know that Marcy has always fought to keep Northwest Ohio safe, and that’s why they’ll send her back to Congress.”
