Once again, Don Bacon is twisting himself into knots trying to have it both ways – this time, on whether he’ll support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House. But last week, Bacon couldn’t stop praising Jordan and said he’d be a “great” Speaker.
Reminder: Jordan led the efforts to pass a national abortion ban with no exceptions, voted to put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block, and was one of the ringleaders for trying to overturn the 2020 election.
Here’s a non-exhaustive list of receipts of Bacon praising Jordan:
10/11/23: “Jim Jordan has done a great job this past week and the last couple of years as a chairman. He’s convinced me that he can also represent the entire Congress, or all the Republicans. I think he’d do a great job as a speaker as well.”
10/11/23: “I will say that he did a very good job yesterday during the forum. I was very impressed.”
10/11/23: “I thought it was very pragmatic and convincing that he’d do his best to represent everybody.”
10/13/23: “I would have voted for Jim Jordan if he would’ve won the election.”
10/13/23: [When asked if he has “major concerns with Jordan as a candidate for speaker?”] “No.”
And now, while Bacon lies to Nebraskans and pivots to preaching bipartisanship, it turns out he’s all talk and no action – per usual.
10/12/23: “But in the end, I think a bipartisan way may be the only answer…”
10/16/23: [When asked what he’s hearing about conversations across the aisle to bipartisanly elect a Speaker] “I haven’t been part of those discussions.”
DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
“Even with an expired Farm Bill, a need for critical funding for Israel, and another looming government shutdown at stake, Don Bacon can’t stop playing politics and talking out of both sides of his mouth. Bacon will always care more about scoring political points than working for Nebraskans.”
