FACT CHECK – Maryland Matt Rosendale Attempts to Rewrite His Record and Dupe Montanans on His Failed Health Care Record

After claiming to be a rancher from Montana, Maryland Matt Rosendale is again trying to mislead Montanans on his record.

Rosendale’s newest ad CLAIMS he is lowering prescription drug costs, but the bill he is claiming credit for wasn’t even written by him and is currently stalled in the legislature and has gone nowhere and done nothing for Montanans. Meanwhile, Rosendale has ACTUALLY proudly supported raising drug prices on 5 million seniors and fully supported giving big pharma a $42 billion tax break.

Here’s three points that break down the reality:

  1. When Maryland Millionaire Matt Rosendale isn’t running for yet another office, he’s attacking the health care needs of Montana’s families by calling to repeal “every word” of the Affordable Care Act, and fully supporting ending protections for those with preexisting conditions like asthma, cancer and diabetes, and even those recovering from COVID-19.
  2. As Montana’s Insurance Commissioner, Rosendale rubber stamped health care premium increases of up to a 23% hike on Montana’s families.
  3. Before his time as Montana’s most special interest friendly Insurance Commissioner, Rosendale spent time in the state legislature where he voted against a bipartisan measure to expand Medicaid for Montanans. Reminder: Medicaid currently covers more than 80,000 Montanans across the state, has created thousands of jobs, and has proven to be a lifeline for rural hospitals and the communities they support.

Statement from DCCC Spokesperson Andy Orellana:

“Maryland Matt Rosendale has Rubberstamped double-digit premium increases, voted against Medicaid expansion for Montana’s rural communities, and supported the full repeal of the ACA including for those with pre-existing conditions like COVID-19 – this is the health care record of Matt Rosendale. Clearly, he is not someone who is proud to run on his above record so instead Rosendale touts bills that have gone nowhere and done nothing to help Montana families.”
