FACT CHECK: Monica De La Cruz Lies to Texas Voters About Her Vote to Take Food Off Their Tables

Monica De La Cruz is attempting to pull the wool over Texans’ eyes as she defends her vote to gut SNAP funding by $300 billion and make it harder for her constituents to put food on the table.

In an Op-Ed for the Beeville Bee-Picayune, De La Cruz parroted Republican talking points that House Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill protected SNAP access.

FACT CHECK: Monica De La Cruz and House Republicans’ vote to cut SNAP funding puts access at risk for the nearly 60,000 families in TX-15 who rely on the program.

  • The Republican Tax Scam will increase the costs of the program for Texas by nearly $1 billion. This enormous burden shift could force Texas to reduce benefits for families.

De La Cruz also implied that the only people who would see their SNAP benefits cut or eliminated would be able-bodied adults without dependents who don’t work.

FACT CHECK: Monica De La Cruz and House Republicans’ legislation expands their red-tape to older Americans and working parents with young children.

  • Over 4 million children in Texas live in households that are at risk of losing their food assistance due to these red-tape requirements. These burdens are also designed to keep eligible households and families from accessing benefits.

De La Cruz shamelessly leans on farmers and ranchers to excuse her vote to sell out her constituents.

FACT CHECK: As one of the largest agricultural producers in the country, Texas’ farmers would bear the brunt of the nationally estimated $30 billion in lost revenue as SNAP participants pare back their food spending.

DCCC Spokesperson Madison Andrus:
“Monica De La Cruz voted to take food off of her own constituents tables – she cannot lie her way out of reality. Maybe if De La Cruz didn’t sell out Texans in favor of party politics at every turn she wouldn’t feel the need to lie so much.”
