Despite losing to incumbent Rep. Sharice Davids by a 10-point margin, failed GOP candidate and top advisor to former Governor Sam Brownback Amanda Adkins looks ready to launch another misguided campaign for KS-03.
“In 2020, Kansans rejected top Brownback advisor Amanda Adkins and her work to enact the disastrous Brownback tax experiment, which Kansas families are still paying for to this day,” said DCCC spokesperson Helen Kalla. “It’s no surprise that the Republican establishment in Kansas is lining up to support Adkins, who supported their education-gutting agenda. Kansans know Adkins and her toxic agenda would be disastrous for working families, which is why they’ll re-elect Congresswoman Sharice Davids because she’s always had their backs.”
When Adkins first announced her candidacy in 2019, the Kansas City Star reported that “Adkins could also feel the drag from her connections to Brownback, who left office with a low approval rating” – and they were right. Adkins lost by 10 points to Davids.
Meanwhile, Davids has been working to help Kansans recover from the coronavirus pandemic and economic crisis – voting to pass the widely popular American Rescue Plan that is putting vaccines in arms, money in pockets, children safely in the classroom, and helping states like Kansas cover the cost of expanding Medicaid.
Kansas received roughly $1.6 billion in relief from the American Rescue Plan, including $118 million to Johnson County, $32 million to Wyandotte County, and $7 million to Miami County. The plan also provides $830 million in relief for K-12 schools in Kansas.
