Feeling the heat from extremists in his party, Katko runs for the fringes
In his latest appearance on right-wing media, John Katko said he would “force the president to eat” a return to Trump-era policies in exchange for not shutting down the government, an event that would have a disastrous impact on the U.S. economy and millions of Americans.
Trump-era immigration policies included the forced separation of children from their families and an obsession with spending billions in taxpayer money on building a wall.
Asked if he was interested in finishing Trump’s Wall, which would cost billions more, Katko responded “Oh, God yes.”
If Katko got his government shutdown, it would have disastrous consequences for American families, jeopardizing Social Security and Medicare benefits, the distribution of SNAP funds to families, and the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of federal workers who’d go without paychecks.
That is what John Katko is willing to risk for a return to the Trump era that the American people rejected in 2020.
DCCC Spokesperson Abel Iraola:
“Far from being a moderate, John Katko continues to embarrass himself and threaten the U.S. economy by playing to extremists who want a return to unconscionable Trump-era policies. Katko would rather have us go back to spending billions separating families and building a wall than getting to work for the American people.”
