Far-Right Rubber Stamp, Scandal-Ridden Cresent Hardy is Out of Step With Southern Nevada Values

After breaking his promise not to run again for NV-04 after losing the seat in 2016, two-time loser and one-term congressman Cresent Hardy re-emerged from obscurity to declare his candidacy at the 11th hour for NV-01.

During his brief tenure in Congress, Hardy was a rubber stamp for Washington Republicans and would be sure to continue enabling his pal Kevin McCarthy’s toxic agenda if he manages to break his losing streak. While in Congress, Hardy stood in lockstep with his party leaders at the expense of Nevadans:

• Voted multiple times to repeal the Affordable Care Act and end protections for Nevadans with pre-existing conditions

• Supported cuts to Medicare and backed increasing the Social Security retirement age

• Worked to rip away womens’ reproductive freedom by voting for a 20-week abortion ban and cosponsoring a personhood bill that would effectively outlaw abortion. During his failed 2018 campaign, Hardy declared he’s “against abortion completely.”

• Voted multiple times against DACA and DREAMers

• Took the deeply unpopular stance of supporting nuclear waste storage at Yucca Mountain

Hardy’s last failed campaigns were marred by scandals that he refused to answer for, including potentially illegally using campaign funds for lavish personal travel, accepting a campaign donation from an apparent telemarketing scam that claimed to support police officers, and continually refusing to address the disturbing behavior of his former campaign staffer who faced domestic battery charges after abusing and forcing his former fiancé into sex slavery.

“Two-time loser Cresent Hardy has nothing new to offer Southern Nevadans except a record of broken promises and toxic votes in service of Washington Republicans’ dangerous agenda,” said DCCC spokesperson Helen Kalla.
