Faso Won’t Say If He’ll Campaign With Trump

Displaying the spinelessness he’s known for, vulnerable Republican Congressman John Faso is staying mum on whether he’ll campaign with President Trump in this year’s mid-term election. In a deep dive into Republican squeamishness with Trump, Politico Magazine reported that Faso “punted questions [on whether he’d campaign with Trump] to an aide who said he was too busy to talk, then didn’t respond to questions about Trump.”

His reluctance to take a position wasn’t unique. NRCC Chairman Steve Stivers—who is responsible for protecting vulnerable members like Faso—himself could not name a single battleground district that he’d want President Trump to campaign in. Vulnerable Virginia Representative Barbara Comstock also refused to answer questions on Trump.

Whether he campaigns with the president or not, Faso’s support for Trump is well documented. Faso votes with him more than 85% of the time, cast the deciding vote to pass the Republican healthcare repeal in committee and then voted for it on the floor, and supported Trump throughout the 2016 presidential election.

As such, Faso should certainly be able to say definitively if he’d campaign with the president and leader of his party.

“Faso’s silence on whether he’ll campaign with President Trump speaks volumes about his spineless character,” said DCCC Spokesman Evan Lukaske. “Make no mistake—Faso votes with Trump more than 85% of the time and supported the Republican healthcare repeal bill. No matter whom he campaigns with, Faso has chained himself to this harmful Republican agenda and will face the consequences this fall.”
