| Today, the DCCC announced that firefighter Bob Brooks has been added to the committee’s highly competitive ‘Red to Blue’ program, signaling that the DCCC is invested in providing Brooks, a top-tier candidate, with the support needed to continue building a winning campaign as he runs for Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District.
“As a 20-year Bethlehem firefighter and union president, Bob Brooks has been on the frontlines serving the community he loves. He understands the challenges that hardworking Lehigh Valley families are facing because he’s lived them himself, and he has the callouses on his hands to prove it. He’s the strongest candidate to flip this must-win seat in November and deliver real results for his community,” said DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene.
Firefighter Bob Brooks has spent his entire life standing up for working families and is running to give them a voice in Washington. Bob spent 20 years running into burning buildings as a Bethlehem firefighter, and still proudly serves as the president of the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association, where he fights for higher wages and better health care for his union. Before the firehouse, Bob worked a number of jobs just like many Pennsylvanians: dishwasher, short-order cook, bartender, landscaper, warehouse worker, and pizza delivery driver. Bob doesn’t look like a typical politician and that’s exactly why people trust him — he knows what it’s like to face foreclosure, rely on food assistance, and work more than one job at a time just to get by. While career politician Ryan Mackenzie votes to jack up costs, rip away health care, and screw over hardworking Lehigh Valley families, Bob is stepping up to serve his community once again and flip this swing seat back to blue.
Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District is rated by non-partisan race raters as one of only a handful of toss-up districts in the entire country, and non-partisan outlet National Journal’s House Power Rankings list Congressman Ryan Mackenzie as “the most vulnerable Republican incumbent” in the entire country after only narrowly winning by roughly 1 percentage point in 2024.
