Carolina Journal: Fireworks at GOP’s 13th District congressional debate in Harnett
The headline says it all. Here is a run down of what happened at one of the first forums in the NC-13 GOP primary:
-
Bo Hines, fresh off his Trump endorsement, showed face then bounced before questions began, leaving attendees confused;
-
Showing hurt feelings, former Rep. Renee Ellmers said she didn’t think Trump made the best endorsement pick;
-
Ellmers swore allegiance to a debunked claim, stating, “I still call him President Trump because when we talk about the 2020 election, I personally don’t believe that was a legitimate outcome;”
-
And no-name Republican DeVan Barbour won the debate with 76% of the vote, according to the county GOP straw poll.
“You can practically hear the circus music as Republicans launch their primary fight in NC-13,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Republicans are going to push each other so far to the right that North Carolina voters will find them unelectable come November.”
