In First Negative Ad of the General Election, Walters ACTUALLY Claims The GOP Tax Scam LOWERS Californians’ Taxes

“Congresswoman Mimi Walters is the GOP Tax Scam’s biggest cheerleader. Her unabashed support for legislation that increases taxes on one million Californians, blows up the deficit by $1.5 trillion, and that overwhelmingly benefits the top 1% of earners certainly makes our job easier.” – Drew Godinich, DCCC spokesperson

SHOT: Mimi Walters claims that she’s “lowering our taxes”, citing the GOP Tax Scam as proof.

ALL THE CHASERS:

  • Walters’ constituents were some of the “biggest beneficiaries” of the SALT and mortgage interest deductions, and the GOP Tax Scam is slated to eliminate savings on $13,915 worth of taxes for each of her district’s beneficiaries.
  • Reducing SALT deduction would result in “double taxation” that would raise the taxes of millions of Californians.

LIME: Polling shows the tax law is a losing issue in California:

“Nearly half of voters, 47%, said they opposed the federal tax overhaul signed by Trump in December. It had support of 27% of voters surveyed, and 26% weren’t sure or had no opinion. A slim majority of voters, 52%, said they would be less likely to vote to reelect their member of Congress if he or she supported the bill.” [Los Angeles Times, 5/23/2018]
