Five Days, Five Ways Washington Insider David Young’s Campaign to Cut Education Would Hurt Iowa

In the fifth and final edition of “Five Days and Five Ways,” the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is highlighting how Washington insider David Young’s plan to eliminate the Department of Education and cut funding for schools while giving tax breaks to the wealthy would mean reduced opportunity across the spectrum, including for adults seeking technical and literacy training.

Today’s edition: David Young would eliminate funding for adults seeking technical training to enter the workforce.

“Washington insider David Young’s plan to eliminate the Department of Education would have consequences for students across the spectrum, young and old,” said Brandon Lorenz of the DCCC. “David Young’s plan to slash opportunity for Iowa students while giving tax breaks to the wealthy might earn him an ‘A’ from the Koch Brothers and his wealthy out of state funders, but it won’t give him a passing grade from Iowa voters in November.”

Young: I Would Get Rid Of The Department Of Education “As We Know It.” In 2013, when asked if he would get rid of the Department of Education Young responded:“I’d get rid of it as we know it, of course, but, you know, I would.” [Polk County GOP Picnic, Des Moines, IA, 9/7/13]

Young: Federal Government in Education Should Only Enforce Discrimination. In 2013 when asked in what role should the government play in education Young responded, “I would say that really the only role I see would be to just enforce any discrimination in education, and that could be done, really sort of lies with the Department of Justice.” [YouTube, 9/5/13]
