Five Days, Five Ways Washington Insider David Young’s Campaign to Cut Education Would Hurt Iowa

In the fourth edition of “Five Days and Five Ways,” the DCCC is highlighting how Washington insider David Young’s plan to eliminate the Department of Education and cut funding for schools while giving tax breaks to the wealthy would raise costs on college students by eliminating their work study program.

Today’s example: David Young’s push to eliminate the Department of Education would mean ending $12.6 million in funding for Federal Work Study for Iowa college students.

“Washington insider David Young has made it clear he’s not on the side of college students, starting with eliminating the Department of Education and Pell Grants, but what’s even worse that he punishes hardworking students by getting rid of work study programs, too,” said Brandon Lorenz of the DCCC. “When David Young says what he really thinks, it’s clear that he is on the side of the ultra-wealthy and the special interests, and not Iowa’s college students.”

Young: Federal Government in Education Should Only Enforce Discrimination. In 2013 when asked in what role should the government play in education Young responded, “I would say that really the only role I see would be to just enforce any discrimination in education, and that could be done, really sort of lies with the Department of Justice.” [YouTube, 9/5/13]
