Flailing Tom Barrett Flops in Latest FEC Report With Another Disappointing Quarter

Tom Barrett filed his quarterly campaign finance report on Friday – proving that his campaign is underfunded, underprepared, and underwater.

According to his Q2 filing, Barrett raised less than $610,000 in the second quarter of 2022 and burned through almost 100% of what he brought in – leaving him with less than $440,000 in the bank right as the election is beginning to heat up.

This is yet another weak fundraising quarter for Barrett, who has previously fallen well below both his own internal fundraising goals and Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin’s $6.5 million warchest.

So it’s no wonder Barrett’s struggling campaign is terrifying national Republican leaders. Earlier this month it was reported that Kevin McCarthy’s Super PAC, Congressional Leadership Fund, is spending almost half a million dollars to boost Barrett in his primary and try to save him from his write-in GOP challenger Jake Hagg.

“Anyone following Tom Barrett’s campaign knows that it’s a second-rate effort, and the weak fundraising numbers he released are proof positive,” said DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “If he can barely outpace a write-in Republican challenger, how can he hope to compete with one of the strongest incumbents in the country? Barrett’s directionless, bumbling campaign is not connecting with voters in mid-Michigan, and come November his extremism will come back to haunt him.”
