Flash Point: Karoline Leavitt Would Cut Social Security

This January, MAGA GOP nominee, 2020 election denier, and anti-abortion crusader Karoline Leavitt joined WMUR to discuss her campaign.

When asked about Social Security, Leavitt proudly said she would write a bill to privatize Social Security, a scheme that could result in “huge cuts in Social Security benefits.”

New Hampshire hasn’t forgotten. Last night, WMUR covered the clear split between Democrat Chris Pappas and Leavitt on protecting Social Security benefits:

“There’s a huge difference between where I stand and where my opponent stands on this issue,” Pappas said. “I want to fight to protect Social Security. Seniors in New Hampshire who have paid into this for a lifetime want to be able to retire with dignity. My opponent wants to literally write the legislation to privatize Social Security.”

For proof of that statement, Pappas pointed to Leavitt’s interview on “CloseUP” in January.

“The privatization of Social Security, while grandfathering in those who have already paid into the system, including myself, I think is a solution that should be looked at very closely, and I would certainly be interested in proposing legislation to do that when I get to Congress,” she said at the time.

DCCC spokesperson James Singer:
“We take Karoline Leavitt at her word. She wants to privatize Social Security and endanger the hard-earned benefits of New Hampshire seniors.”
