| In the latest sign that Republicans’ Florida dummymander is on track to fail, Congresswoman Kathy Castor is heading into the general election with all of the momentum.
New reporting details that “Democrats and Republicans also expect… Rep. Kathy Castor, who has represented Tampa for 20 years, to survive despite her district now favoring Republicans by 10 points.”
The reporting detailed Castor is making it clear that momentum is on her side, arguing “Tampa’s booming growth — including a [new] $24 million federal grant she secured to build out the city’s West Side — and her focus on local issues will help her win.”
One political strategist even said “some of his G.O.P. friends who ordinarily wouldn’t support a Democrat are planning to back Castor because she is ‘hyper-nonpartisan when it comes to taking care of Tampa.’”
After the primary, Castor reiterated that bipartisan appeal. “You can’t go anywhere around the Tampa Bay region without seeing my work,” citing her work on the Affordable Care Act, veterans’ benefits, military housing and a $178 million bed tower at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital as well as bipartisan health care, energy and housing legislation she has championed in Congress.
DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“Republicans’ attempts to rig the system in their favor are no match for Kathy Castor’s record of results for Tampa families. Voters know that Kathy has a proven track record of making their lives better, fighting for Tampa veterans, better health care, and funding for the region. They’ll re-elect Kathy in November.”
