Former Republican Governor Jan Brewer warned Congressional Republicans not to cut Medicaid for Arizona families, after Rep. Andy Biggs previewed the GOP’s scheme to slash Medicaid expansion through the Affordable Care Act.
Their partisan plan would kick an estimated 629,000 Arizonans off of their health insurance, devastating children, families, people with disabilities, older Americans, nursing homes, and rural hospitals.
“People dying is what happens,” Gov. Brewer said.
Last month, Reps. David Schweikert, Eli Crane, and Juan Ciscomani greenlit a budget blueprint that directs the committee overseeing Medicaid and Medicare to find $880 billion in cuts in order to fund trillions in tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy.
When lawmakers return from the district work period, the Energy & Commerce Committee will begin the mark up process – which the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office confirms cannot be done without axing Medicaid.
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“No matter how much spin or phony politics Republicans want to play, the math doesn’t lie. Arizona Republicans like David Schweikert, Eli Crane, and Juan Ciscomani are pushing for the largest cut to Medicaid in history to fund trillions in tax breaks for their billionaire donors and wealthy corporations.”
