Mike Lawler’s broken promises are costing him the very voters who first sent him to Congress.
In a new op-ed, Rockland County resident and Air Force veteran Mike Monroe calls his previous vote for Mike Lawler “a mistake,” citing Lawler’s record of voting with Donald Trump 100% of the time, even when it hurts his own constituents.
While Lawler spends his time in Washington rubberstamping Trump’s cost-spiking tariffs, reckless war of choice in Iran, and devastating health care cuts, Hudson Valley families like Monroe’s are paying more at the grocery store, at the pump, and at the doctor’s office.
That’s why Monroe is putting his trust in Cait Conley this November: a fellow veteran, a fourth-generation Hudson Valley native, and a candidate who has promised to fight Washington corruption. Unlike Lawler, Monroe writes, she’ll be “accountable to us, not corporations and special interests.”

Lohud: I previously voted for Mike Lawler. This November, I’m with Cait Conley.
Mike Monroe | October 12, 2026
- When Mike Lawler ran for Congress he promised to tackle inflation, lower costs, and make life more affordable. Because I thought I could take him at his word, I voted for him. That was a mistake.
- The worst part is that our congressman, Mike Lawler, is largely to blame for these soaring prices. He votes with Donald Trump 100% of the time, even when it hurts all of us.
- Lawler voted eight times for Trump’s tariffs. Those tariffs are costing households across the Hudson Valley $4,200 more — a burden he shrugged off as “a little bit of short-term pain.” $4,200 may not mean a lot to you, Mike, but to a family like mine that loss is real and we feel it.
- Lawler voted six times for Trump’s war with Iran that has sent gas prices through the roof. He claimed that gas prices would come down by now, that they’d be “right around three or just below it” by the upcoming midterm elections. We’re at nearly $4.50 a gallon!
- Lawler was the deciding vote on Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which paid for tax breaks for billionaires and many of his own corporate donors by kicking nearly half a million New Yorkers off their healthcare and raising healthcare costs for hundreds of thousands more.
- Lawler has also voted to raise our energy costs and utility bills, to give $80 billion in tax breaks to data center developers after taking hundreds of thousands from Big Tech, to give his Big Pharma donors a $9 billion windfall and foot seniors with the bill — the list goes on and on.
- At the end of the day, actions have consequences. Mike Lawler’s allegiance to Donald Trump has raised my cost-of-living, and cost him my vote.
- Cait is the daughter of a construction worker and a postal worker whose family has called the Hudson Valley home for four generations. She actually understands the value of a dollar. She would never write off $4,200 as “a little bit of short-term pain.”
- Cait also understands the meaning of service. Like me, she served this country proudly — and I won’t hold it against her that she chose the Army. A graduate of West Point, who served 16 years and did six tours overseas under both Republican and Democratic presidents, her loyalty to our country is unquestionable.
- Cait has vowed to take on corruption so politicians can’t keep lining their pockets at the taxpayers’ expense. She wants to ban stock trading by members of Congress. She’ll work to lower middle-class taxes and hold monopoly utility companies and Big Pharma accountable to lower costs. I believe her.
- Because unlike Lawler (a former utility lobbyist), Cait doesn’t take any corporate PAC money and isn’t raking in tens of millions from Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and more. That means she’s accountable to us, not corporations and special interests.
- If you want a more affordable future, I encourage you to join me in voting for Cait Conley.
