One week from today, Missourians will go to the polls to vote on whether to expand Medicaid, following 36 other states that have already done so. Passing Medicaid expansion would provide access to affordable health care to 230,000 Missourians, including the more than 26,000 uninsured in the 2nd Congressional District.
Ann Wagner’s Missouri Republican Party, of which she is a former chair, is doing everything in their power to stop the health care expansion, putting out calls to supporters begging “WE NEED YOUR HELP TO STOP THIS!” But Wagner has so far remained silent on whether she’ll vote for the health care expansion.
Statement from DCCC Spokesperson Courtney Rice:
“Missourians deserve a representative who will stand with them, not practice blind loyalty to their political party when their constituents’ health is at stake. Now, more than ever due to the pandemic, Missourians shouldn’t have to worry about choosing between a trip to the emergency room to be treated for coronavirus or buying groceries for the month. It’s time Congresswoman Wagner took a stand.”
As a reminder, Wagner voted to support a lawsuit that would dismantle the Affordable Care Act – even in the midst of a pandemic – and has repeatedly attempted to repeal the health care law that guarantees that 320,500 Missourians in the 2nd Congressional District with pre-existing conditions won’t be charged more or kicked off their insurance.
