In the midst of House Republicans’ “unified” retreat where members were warned to avoid scandals to have a shot at winning in November, GOP Rep. Jeff Fortenberry was convicted on two counts of lying to federal agents and one count of concealing conduit campaign contributions. Fortenberry lied about his knowledge of an illegal contribution to his reelection campaign from a billionaire foreign national and could face up to five years in prison on each count.
Fortenberry’s conviction underscores the Republican party’s shameless quest to gain power for themselves. His conviction comes just weeks after GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar whipped up division after attending a white supremacist conference. McCarthy vowed to talk to Greene and Gosar ahead of the retreat, yet failed to take any action to hold them accountable.

“Voters know Republicans can’t be trusted with the People’s House when their members are extremists, white nationalists, and convicted felons. If House Republicans wanted this week to be about unity, they can trust that voters are unified in their rejection of the GOP’s shameless greed and absolute extremism.” |
