| Four years after the Supreme Court ripped reproductive rights away from millions of Alaska women, Nick Begich has continued the work of further dismantling abortion rights in Congress.
Begich’s anti-women record is clear: he and House Republicans have continued to pass dangerous, draconian laws that endanger women’s lives and give Republican politicians like themselves power over decisions that belong to Alaska women.
From voting for the Big, Ugly Bill that threatened to shutter the few remaining health clinics in Alaska that offer comprehensive, lifesaving services, to listening to anti-abortion extremists who bullied House Republicans to oppose extending the ACA tax credits, to voting to jail doctors and nurses who provide reproductive care – Begich is out of step with the 60 percent of Americans who believe abortion should be legal.
Reminder: One in three Alaskans rely on Planned Parenthood for access to miscarriage management, cancer screenings, STI and STD testing, family planning services, and birth control.
Begich’s record speaks for itself:
- He proudly supports a national abortion ban.
- He supports allowing states to ban abortions.
- He voted for extreme legislation last year that would penalize doctors for providing life-saving care.
- He opposes pharmacies’ ability to distribute mifepristone to patients.
- He opposes public health programs providing infertility treatments like IVF.
- He is against the extension of Medicaid coverage for abortion care, even to treat cases of rape, incest, or where the life of the mother is at risk.
- He voted for the GOP Tax Scam, gutting Medicaid and ACA funding for essential reproductive health care.
- He called for information on abortion medication “reversal” – which is not supported by science – to be given to anyone who receives the medication.
DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“Nick Begich supported overturning Roe and has made things worse by voting to keep stripping women of their reproductive freedom, passing draconian laws to control women’s health care as part of Republicans’ never-ending quest to ban abortion nationwide. Voters are already angry with Begich’s unpopular agenda crushing their day to day lives, and they’ll hold him accountable for his anti-choice extremism at the ballot box this November.” |
