Four Years Since Implementation of DACA & Will Hurd Still Stands on the Wrong Side of History

Four years ago, President Obama’s successful Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) went into effect, allowing over 728,000 law abiding DREAMers to receive deportation relief and obtain temporary work permits. This program provides them with a chance to contribute to the only country they know and love, and came to through no fault of their own. Yet Will Hurd stands with a Republican Party of Trump that has embraced Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant sentiments and remains the roadblock to immigration reform.

Today’s anniversary is yet another reminder of how Will Hurd over and over again falls in line as the Republican Party continues to alienate immigrant communities:

  • Voted against allowing DREAMers to serve their country in the military
  • Voted for a cruel, historic amicus brief against expanded DACA and for massive deportations;
  • Supported Republican leadership that continues to block comprehensive immigration reform.

“Since going into effect four years ago today, it’s clear that DACA works and makes our country stronger and safer,” said Javier Gamboa of the DCCC. “In reflecting on this program, and its success, it’s important to remember that Will Hurd’s refusal to do his job in Congress and pass comprehensive immigration reform is what led President Obama to take action to protect families. Immigrant and Hispanic voters are paying attention this election, and when it comes to immigration, voters will see no daylight between Will Hurd and Trump’s un-American immigration plan.”
