“G.O.P. Again Cedes Power on Tariffs to Avoid Crossing Trump” [New York Times]

The so-called moderate House Republicans voted – AGAIN – to cede congressional power on tariffs to Donald Trump.
This latest reckless maneuver strips Congress of its power to provide oversight into Trump’s sweeping tariffs — including on Mexico, Canada, Brazil, and other nations.

The vote today comes after House Republicans voted against canceling Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Brazil, which are partially responsible for the massive spike in the cost of coffee.

Everything is more expensive thanks to Trump’s sweeping tariffs. Notably, grocery prices are at their highest level in three years – with the cost of food 3.2% higher this August compared to this same time last year.

REMINDER: Recent polling suggests Trump’s sweeping tariffs are deeply unpopular with the American people, with just 38% of Americans approving and an overwhelming 62% of people disapproving – up from 59% in June.

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“The Rubber Stamp Republicans in the House have abdicated any sense of independence and chosen instead to fully submit to Donald Trump. Next year, they will be held accountable for their failure to deliver on their ‘day one’ campaign promise to lower costs for working families.”
