Gabe Evans “Echo[es] Trump’s False Claim That ‘We’re Not Cutting Medicaid’” [The Guardian]

Evans was confronted by Democratic lawmaker for supporting largest cuts to Medicaid in history

Gabe Evans continues to falsely claim “Medicaid is not being cut” – and he was just called out for it.

Evans repeated the lie after being confronted by a fellow congressman who urged the vulnerable Republican not to gut health care for Coloradans.

Independent fact checkers agree that Evans, who is constantly repeating Trump talking points, is lying to Coloradans. The House-passed Big Ugly Bill guts Medicaid funding and would kick more than 225,000 Coloradans off their health care, including nearly 30,000 of Evans’ own constituents.

In case you missed it…

The Guardian: House Republicans echo Trump’s false claim that ‘we’re not cutting Medicaid’ as they push for over $900 billion in Medicaid cuts

  • When Republican congressman Gabe Evans of Colorado was confronted in the Capitol rotunda on Wednesday by Greg Casar, a progressive Democrat from Texas, about his support for a bill that cuts more than $900 billion spending in Medicaid, Evans had a simple reply: “we’re not cutting Medicaid”.
  • In fact, according to an analysis this week by the non-partisan Penn Wharton Budget Model, the Republican tax and spending bill would cut Medicaid spending by more than $900 billion.
  • But the Republican party line, dictated by Donald Trump, is simply to deny that reality and claim that the changes to Medicaid are simply about cutting “waste, fraud and abuse.”
