Evans’ aunt blasts his latest bogus claim about their family as “totally delusional”

Already dubbed the “most vulnerable House incumbent in the country,” Gabe Evans must be gunning for another superlative… Most Likely to Lie to Coloradans.

So far this year, Evans has been called out for:

Falsely stating that he didn’t help blow a $1 billion hole into Colorado’s state budget
Falsely stating that his tax plan “does not cut Medicaid” – even though non-partisan experts agree that Evans helped pass the largest cuts to Medicaid in history
Falsely stating that he talked to farmers who support sweeping tariffs that hurt Colorado’s farming and ranching economies
Misrepresenting his own grandfather’s immigration story, while supporting policies that would have deported his own grandfather
Questionably claiming that he’s a rancher who can relate to beef producers who are “feeding the world” – even though he doesn’t have any cattle on his land and only raised “two or three cows a year” before coming to Congress.

Now, Evans’ family is exposing him for making “delusional” claims about his own mother on the campaign trail.

Colorado Congressman Gabe Evans’ mom was born in the United States. Yet, throughout his election campaign and after he entered Congress, Evans repeatedly stated that his mother believed she’d spend her entire life in a “hut” with a “dirt floor” in Mexico.
“I don’t have any idea where that came from,” said Jennifer Chavez, who is Evans’ mother’s sister (2 years younger)… “It’s just totally delusional, because, I mean, that’s just such a stretch,” said Chavez.
Newsline quoted Jennifer Chavez as saying she and Evans’ mother, “were raised in a middle-class neighborhood in El Paso. We went to Eastwood High School, which was predominantly Caucasian.”
Evans or his campaign delivered versions of the carefully constructed dirt-floor line in at least 10 interviews or emails.
In interviews, Evans has said directly that he tells his mother’s story about the hut to appeal to Latino voters in his district, which is about 40% Hispanic.
“It is a fabrication made up, in my opinion, purposely to play on the emotions of the Hispanic voters in his district,” said Chavez.
