| There’s no sugar-coating it: “All hat, no cattle” wannabe rancher Gabe Evans has been a disaster for Colorado’s agricultural economy.
Farm bankruptcies — which increased by 46% in 2025 — are soaring to levels not seen since the COVID-19 pandemic. Colorado’s Agricultural Commissioner previously told the Denver Post that tariffs and higher costs are “fueling fears” of even more farm and ranch bankruptcies in Colorado.
In other words, farmers and consumers are paying the ultimate price for Evans’ senseless trade war. Over the past year, the USDA reports 15,000 farms were lost, and many more are in danger.
Purdue’s farmer sentiment barometer shows that half of producers report their farm operations are worse off than one year ago, and 31% expect their operating loans to increase (up from 23% in 2025).
REMINDER: Evans voted twice this year to protect price-spiking tariffs that are devastating Colorado’s agricultural economy. Evans voted for similar legislation to protect tariffs last year.
DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Gabe Evans is using farmers and ranchers as pawns in his chaotic and failing trade war, leaving the agriculture industry on the brink of collapse. While the President bails out foreign countries and undercuts fair markets, Evans has no plan to put Colorado farmers and ranchers first.” |
