Today, DCCC Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney announced that the DCCC added twelve candidates to the highly competitive Red to Blue program.
On that list is former Las Cruces Councilmember Gabe Vasquez, who is running to kick radical Republican Yvette Herrell out of office and finally give Southern New Mexico families a representative who will vote for good-paying jobs and critical investments. NM-02 has been a Republican stronghold, with only one Democrat holding the seat since 2011, but redistricting has turned this seat into a major pickup opportunity for Democrats.
Vasquez earned a spot on the DCCC’s coveted Red to Blue program by surpassing aggressive goals for grassroots engagement, local support, campaign organization, and fundraising. Vasquez touts a record of leadership, delivering millions of dollars in investments as a local council member, and an ability to build a winning campaign infrastructure. As a first-generation American, Vasquez has an authentic message and deep ties to the diverse communities he will serve in Congress.
“Gabe Vasquez proved himself a champion for New Mexico’s working families as a Las Cruces councilmember. As a first-generation American, Gabe has lived the American Dream and is running for Congress to ensure that Dream remains a reality for anyone willing to work hard and play by the rules,” said DCCC spokesperson Maddy Mundy. “He is ready to take on Yvette Herrell and her radical record of spewing extremism and COVID-19 conspiracies. With Gabe Vasquez, residents of New Mexico’s 2nd will finally have a representative who will fight for them and build an economy that benefits everyone.”
Red to Blue is a highly competitive battle-tested DCCC program that arms top-tier candidates with organizational and fundraising support to help them continue to develop strong campaigns. Through Red to Blue, the DCCC also provides strategic guidance, staff resources, candidate trainings and more.
