Gabe Vasquez Runs on Strong Record of Boosting Public Safety in NM-02 [Albuquerque Journal]

New reporting from the Albuquerque Journal spotlights Congressman Gabe Vasquez’s proven track record of delivering public safety results for his district, “including his ability to secure federal funding for law enforcement facilities.”

As the issue is expected to play a central role in his “closely watched” re-election race “that could determine political control over the U.S. House,” the contrast couldn’t be clearer: While Vasquez has been hard at work in Congress to tackle drug cartelsstem the flow of fentanyl, and secure federal funding for local law enforcement officers from Carlsbad to Albuquerque, Greg Cunningham is running on blind allegiance to party extremists.

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“New Mexico voters are looking for someone who has delivered results to keep their families safe. That’s Gabe Vasquez. His consistent and laser-focused commitment to improving public safety and bringing resources home for local law enforcement is exactly what will get him re-elected in November.”

Albuquerque Journal: Public safety a key issue in closely watched race for New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District

  • With the November general election less than four months away, incumbent Democrat Gabe Vasquez has touted his track record in Congress over the last three-plus years, including his ability to secure federal funding for law enforcement facilities.
  • That includes more than $1 million for improvements to Albuquerque’s Real Time Crime Center, along with additional money to help renovate the Carlsbad Police Department.
  • “I have worked very well with many Republicans in Congress to bring home important projects, and really focused on projects that have an impact on New Mexico,” Vasquez said…

…Vasquez…introduced legislation in the U.S. House to tackle the presence of drug cartels in schools in the border region. He also filed a bipartisan measure in 2024 aimed at reducing the flow of fentanyl across the border.

  • …Vasquez has continued to meet with local law enforcement officials and joined Sunland Park Police Chief Kiri Daines for a ride-along near the U.S.-Mexico border this week.
  • [Vasquez] expressed confidence about winning reelection to a third term this year, after defeating Republican Yvette Herrell in both 2022 and 2024. “I think the Democratic House majority runs through New Mexico’s 2nd District,” Vasquez said. “It’s always been an important district.”
