Chapter 3 – Congressman Garcia Voted Against Supporting Small Business and Then Said Nothing As Trump Administration Shielded Special Interests
Last month, Congressman Mike Garcia refused to stand up for small businesses in his community and voted against the bipartisan TRUTH Act, a bill that would provide transparency for the more than $500 billion in Paycheck Protection Program loans delivered to 4.5 million businesses across the U.S.
Now, the Trump administration is signaling that it will not disclose who received those funds. Secretary Mnuchin says it’s “proprietary” and “confidential” information. And according to a new report from POLITICO, “GAO says that the Small Business Administration is also withholding PPP loan data the agency requested as part of its oversight efforts.”
The question now is why is Mike Garcia siding with the Trump Administration’s latest move to protect big corporations over California’s small businesses?
“Even as 38 other Republicans worked across the aisle to support small businesses, Garcia voted against the TRUTH Act and campaigned on Trump TV while remaining silent on the Trump Administration protecting corporations over local small business in Southern California. It’s this kind of blind following of Trump and hard-right wing partisan politics that Californians have rejected before and will do so again in November,” said DCCC Spokesperson Andy Orellana.
