Chapter 5 – Garcia Votes Against Bipartisan Support For Small Businesses While Southern California Small Business Communities Struggle
During this pandemic and economic crisis, it has become abundantly clear that Southern California families and small business cannot afford Congressman Mike Garcia’s failed leadership and outright fealty to special interests and Trump’s Washington GOP.
Looking for proof? Last week, the voters of Southern California woke up to headlines that would alarm any Californian:
SCV Signal: Santa Clarita Valley Businesses Shutter Amid Pandemic
AP: California Jobless Rate 16.3% In May
As headlines and news reports of small business closures within CA-25 continue, it is bringing to light the real world costs of Congressman Mike Garcia’s vote against the TRUTH Act, bipartisan legislation that would have increased transparency to the SBA’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and ensured that small businesses – not large corporations – receive crucial stop-gap funding in order to keep employees on the payroll through the pandemic-induced economic recession.
REMINDER – 38 House Republicans joined in to support this common-sense bipartisan measure to increase transparency and better support small businesses during this time of economic crisis, but Mike Garcia was not one of them.
Statement from DCCC Spokesperson Andy Orellana:
“Mike Garcia sits in a purple district that expects bipartisan problem solvers to deliver, but he refused to work across the aisle and now Southern California small businesses are having to decide if they keep their doors open. Mike Garcia’s arch-conservative ways and fealty to Trump’s Washington GOP should surprise no one, as Garcia campaigned saying the hardline obstructionist and Trump lackey, Rep. Jim Jordan, was his ‘legislative role model.’ With Garcia blindly following hard-right partisans, voters of Southern California will not forget that Garcia chose Trump’s party politics over the needs of his district.”
