Chapter 2 – Mike Garcia Continues To Peddle The Age Old Washington Trope Of Independent Leadership, But Stays Silent As His Political Patron, Donald Trump, Is Criticized By The Military Heroes Who Know Him Best.
Over the last few days, Donald Trump was excoriated by Former Defense Secretary General Jim Mattis and former Chief of Staff John Kelly, for being one of the most divisive presidents in history.
General Jim Mattis:
“Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us […] “We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership. We can unite without him, drawing on the strengths inherent in our civil society. This will not be easy, as the past few days have shown, but we owe it to our fellow citizens; to past generations that bled to defend our promise; and to our children.”
General John Kelly:
“I agree with him (General Jim Mattis)”
As military leaders, previously aligned with the president, denounce Trump’s behavior over the past few weeks, Washington’s newest politician, Mike Garcia, continues his silence when it comes to the behavior of his political benefactor.
Remember that last week, as 38 other Republicans worked across the aisle to support small businesses, Garcia voted against the TRUTH Act and campaigned on Trump TV while staying silent on the president’s use of military force for a photo op in front of a place of worship.
DCCC Spokesperson Andy Orellana released the following statement:
“As Generals Jim Mattis and John Kelly denounce Donald Trump’s divisive and dangerous behavior, Washington’s latest Republican politician Mike Garcia can’t seem to muster the political courage to denounce his top political benefactor. Garcia’s silence proves he will never be the independent voice that CA-25 families need and deserve and that his loyalties continue to lie with Donald Trump.”
