Georgia Republican Rich McCormick Would Continue the Threat to Abortion Rights in Congress

As SCOTUS hears oral arguments to decide the fate of Roe v. Wade, Rich McCormick is on the wrong side of history

Today, the Supreme Court hears oral arguments on Texas bill S.B. 8, the draconian six-week abortion ban that unconstitutionally eliminates nearly all abortion access. This disgraceful bill seeks to overturn more than 50 years of protections solidified under Roe v. Wade by using a “sue thy neighbor” scheme to call on vigilante bounty hunters to threaten and attack a person’s right to reproductive health care. And Georgia Republican Rich McCormick has made it crystal clear that if he made it to Congress, he would continue to push these shameful, dangerous attacks on reproductive rights.

Let’s be clear: A woman’s right to make her own decision about her body is on the line because of Republican extremism at every level of government across the country. From the extremists in state legislatures passing laws like the Texas ban, to the extremists in Congress pushing the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and end access to safe, legal abortion in this country, Republicans are an existential threat to women’s freedoms and health care.

Reproductive rights are on the ballot — everywhere. And Rich McCormick is part of the problem.

McCormick has staked out one of the most radical positions possible on reproductive rights, pledging that he would ban abortion “in all circumstances with no exceptions.” His extreme position is out of step with the 77% of the American people who support Roe v. Wade and safe, legal abortion.

“Every day that Texas’s abortion ban remains in effect is a devastating, dangerous attack on women’s constitutional right to safe, legal abortion,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Georgians deserve a representative who will always champion their right to make their own personal health care decisions. Rich McCormick is wildly out of step with most Georgians and he’ll answer for his extreme attacks on reproductive health care at the ballot box.”
