| Today, Elise Stefanik officially launched her bid for New York governor – a job Mike Lawler has spent far too much time daydreaming about as he failed to do his current job representing the Hudson Valley in Congress.
After more than a year of teasing, winking, and not-so-subtle hints, Lawler’s gubernatorial ambitions are long gone—all because Donald Trump told him to stay put, and he didn’t have the spine to say no.
We all know Lawler wishes it was him today, so let’s take a look at some of his most desperate public flirtations with the Governor’s mansion over the past year:
- In May 2024, Lawler joked in a parody video, “We’ll have plenty of time for laughs when I’m governor in a couple of years.”
- In November, he told CBS, “We’ll see what the future holds” for the governor’s mansion.
- In a December campaign video, Lawler referred to Governor Hochul, joking “I wonder, who could beat her? Hmm? I might know a guy,” winking to the camera.
- By January 2025, he was posting on twitter: “It’s no secret that I’m looking at a run for Governor of New York State.”
- And when he officially ruled out a run in July, he couldn’t help but say he “fundamentally believe[s he’s] best positioned to take on Kathy Hochul.”
Lawler’s gubernatorial flameout is just the latest proof that he’s not in charge of his own career—Donald Trump is—and he’ll continue putting Trump’s toxic agenda over Hudson Valley voters until the day they show him the door.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Mike Lawler spent more than a year subjecting New Yorkers to his political daydreams—only to cave to Donald Trump and follow orders to carry out his extreme agenda in Congress. Lawler may have chickened out of a statewide loss, but Hudson Valley voters will still send him packing next November.” |
