GOP Clown Car in IL-14 Gets Even More Crowded

Republican field continues to underwhelm as sixth candidate enters the race, with more in the wings

Like clockwork, yet another mediocre Republican candidate entered the primary field in Illinois’ 14th Congressional district this week, bringing the total to six, with more candidates weighing bids. With titular frontrunner (and noted serial political loser) Jim Oberweis raising a paltry $107,450 in his first quarter as a candidate, expect more weak candidates to hop in, and for Republicans to engage in a nasty and expensive race to the right.

While the GOP primary field gets big enough for a pick-up basketball game, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood is focused in Washington on delivering for middle-class families: by working to lower the cost of health care, reversing the GOP’s tax hike on Illinois homeowners, and caring for our veterans.

“At the rate we’re going, the field of underwhelming Republican candidates in the 14th District will hit triple digits by the filing deadline,” said DCCC spokesperson Mike Gwin. “While the GOP tries to navigate a messy race to the right, Congresswoman Underwood’s going to keep delivering for Illinois families on the issues that matter to them, from lower the cost of health care to cutting taxes on the middle-class.”
