Voters in San Diego deserve to know whether or not the Republican candidates in California’s 52nd Congressional District support keeping guns out of the hands of FBI terror suspects. Republican candidates Jacquie Atkinson, Denise Gitsham, John Horst, and Mike Canada should tell the public if they would support legislation closing the terrorist gun loophole.
The bipartisan Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act would close the loophole that has been exploited in the past by terror suspects who have legally purchased guns and explosives. According to federal data over 2,000 suspects on the terrorist watch list purchased weapons in the U.S. in the last 11 years.
“These men and women want to represent San Diego in Congress, yet have said nothing about what they would do to encourage responsible gun ownership and keep guns out of dangerous hands,” said Barb Solish of the DCCC. “San Diegans can only assume that they too will sit back like their Republican Speaker Paul Ryan and do nothing.”
