Retiring GOP Congressman Don Bacon said the quiet part out loud this week when he admitted Trump’s sweeping tariffs have caused a “troubled time” in America’s heartland.
The admission comes after an awful jobs report and mounting evidence that Trump’s reckless trade policy is raising costs and shrinking markets for America’s farmers and food supply.

“From my vantage point here in Nebraska, we’re seeing a bit of a troubled economic mess. Right now it’s a troubled time,” Bacon told CNN, “In Nebraska the GDP has decreased by 6% over the last year and it’s all about trade, it’s all about getting corn and soy beans out the door.”
REMINDER: Trump’s tariffs are also hitting America’s manufacturing sector. Just this week, the Wall Street Journal reported American car manufacturers are among the hardest hit by tariffs, leading to stagnation of wages, “if not layoffs and closures of plants.”
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Republicans know Trump’s reckless trade policy is raising costs for everyday families, hurting farmers, and upending America’s heartland. But instead of doing anything about it, they just keep voting to shield Daddy Trump from any oversight. They will be held accountable for their failure to deliver on their campaign promise to lower the cost of living in America.” |
