GOP Infighting Heats Up in AZ-04

Kelly Cooper drags Tanya Wheeless for being a “ten year lobbyist”

The AZ-04 primary is heating up after Kelly Cooper dragged “establishment” candidate Tanya Wheeless for her years of lobbying and serving as a political operative for failed Arizona politicians.

Last week, Cooper pulled no punches on the conservative talk show Diamond & Silk as he dragged his primary opponent – and pushed conspiracy theories about the 2020 election:

“There’s myself and there’s the opposition, the establishment candidate.

“Now this candidate is a ten-year lobbyist that went on to work for a political campaign. So she worked for Martha McSally as a state director and deputy chief of staff, so she lost […] a Congressional seat and two Senate seats if I’m not mistaken.

“And then, if that wasn’t great, she Peter principled her way up to uh, being the chief of staff for Stephen Richer. Now, you may not know that name, but out here in Arizona that name means, uh, that is the County Recorder that we elected to make elections boring again and safe again that then right after the election called us all crazy and refused to audit the election.”

The last thing Republicans need in this bruising primary is more infighting – and with one of their leading candidates attacking the other for being a hatchet man for special interests and failed politicians, it’ll be an uphill battle convincing Arizona voters to support either option this November.

“The GOP primary in AZ-04 is between a lobbyist who dedicated her career to serving special interests and radical politicians, and a MAGA extremist who spreads conspiracy theories and will do or say anything to get elected,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “That tells you all you need to know about what the Arizona Republican Party is offering voters.”
