Recent reporting from CNN reveals that House Republicans’ Big, Ugly Bill is already taking a severe toll on Maine’s health care system – and Paul LePage is standing right behind it.
Northern Light Health, “which operates nine hospitals, a medical group, nursing homes and several dozen primary care locations in [Maine],” told CNN that it’s “projecting a $27 million annual drop in revenue from the [law]” – largely because 34,000 Mainers are expected to lose Medicaid coverage later this year and next.
CNN reports that “the looming revenue decline led Northern Light Health to make some major moves last year, including significantly cutting staff, improving its payment collection and consolidating doctors’ offices.”
MEANWHILE: Extremist Paul LePage called House Republicans’ Big, Ugly Bill “the greatest thing that can happen to the Maine people,” and said he would’ve voted for the piece of legislation himself.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Paul LePage cheered on the health care cuts that are now slamming Maine hospitals and threatening care for tens of thousands of Mainers. While hospitals scramble to deal with the fallout, LePage is standing behind the same bill that caused the damage. Mainers deserve a leader who fights to protect their health care — not a politician who helped put it on the chopping block.” |
