Mike Johnson says he has “PTSD” from the failed GOP effort in 2017 to repeal the Affordable Care Act and rip away protections for millions with pre-existing conditions.
Now Johnson, who was chair of the Republican Study Committee in the 116th Congress, says he is using his RSC health care plan to formulate a new GOP health care plan.
The plan?
Repeal the Affordable Care Act.
At the same time, Johnson called the Democratic position to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits a “boondoggle,” despite the fact that by refusing to extend the tax credits, over 20 million Americans will face double – or even triple – the cost of their premiums.
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Mike Johnson just admitted the GOP’s ‘health care plan’ isn’t only about slashing Medicaid and shuttering rural hospitals. Republicans are still desperate to repeal the Affordable Care Act and rip away protections for people with pre-existing conditions — as the Speaker made clear yesterday. His comments make clear that Democrats are the only party fighting for affordable, high-quality care for hardworking families.”
REMINDER: When Republicans tried – yet failed – to repeal the Affordable Care Act during Trump’s first term, Democrats flipped 41 seats and regained control of the House of Representatives. |
