Government shutdown looms as Republicans call it quits

MAGA Republicans to America: ‘We should not fear a government shutdown

Political theater has once again dominated the week instead of Republicans doing their actual jobs and delivering for everyday families. This afternoon, Speaker McCarthy called it quits and sent Members of Congress home after another week of chaos and dysfunction in Washington, D.C. – leaving just 18 days to avert a government shutdown.

And it’s happening because the so-called voices of moderation in the House GOP Conference, who claim to be responsible lawmakers, have allowed the House Freedom Caucus to take our nation hostage – again.

If House Republicans get their way, their shutdown would disrupt important services and programs everyday families and small businesses depend on, such as food inspections, home mortgage approvals, and national parks. Additionally, a government shutdown would freeze pay for hundreds of thousands of federal workers – including active-duty troops and law enforcement officers.

DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
“Vulnerable Republicans have just given up, leaving the Freedom Caucus and MAGA extremists to run amok over the needs of working families. Americans are looking for responsible leaders, not cheerleaders for a government shutdown.”
