Iowa News Now: Two Republicans challenge Iowa GOP incumbents in competitive congressional races

  • At least two Republicans are eyeing a seat in Congress, despite GOP incumbents already holding the seats.
  • David Pautsch said he’s also an ally of President Trump’s and is hoping to unseat Congresswoman Miller-Meeks.
  • This would be his second time challenging her, losing to Miller-Meeks by roughly 12 percentage points back in 2024.
  • Pautsch said he wants to be the leader, Congress so desperately needs.
  • “There’s such a leadership vacuum in Congress,” Pautsch said. “People have a leadership position, but they don’t exercise any leadership. New ideas die of loneliness in their brinks. They’re not willing to fight. They’re not willing to use their voice and I’ve got a big mouth and I’m willing to do that.”
  • “[Miller Meeks is] running for reelection to the first congressional district and already has a GOP primary opponent. David Pautsch is looking to challenge the congresswoman for the second time…”
  • Earlier this year, Rep. Miller-Meeks said she would be holding town halls but we haven’t seen any on her schedule.
  • She told Iowa’s News Now that the Iowa State Fair is like one big walking town hall. We are still waiting to hear back from her office on when or if she plans to one.
