| One year ago today, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent promised the American people an “Affordability Czar” to lead the fight against rising costs. Two weeks later, he doubled down, claiming an appointment would come in “about ten days.” Fast forward 365 days: prices remain sky high thanks to Republicans’ policies and the Affordability Czar is nowhere to be found.
Recent reports show inflation continues to come in hotter than expected, and thanks to Trump and Republicans’ tariffs, retail giants are raising prices, passing costs onto consumers. Despite Republican campaign promises, utility costs are up, grocery costs are up, health care costs are up, and everything is more expensive in America.
Polling shows Trump is 19 points underwater on the economy and even Republican strategists are saying he and House Republicans are “culpable for those higher costs.”
DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
“Trump and House Republicans promised to lower costs on ‘day one’ and even announced an ‘Affordability Czar’ to prove it. One year later, prices are still sky high and that pledge has turned into just another broken promise.” |
