Tom Kean Jr. kicked his campaign off with GOP Leader McCarthy to the embarrassment of his father’s allies. Days later, he proudly touted receiving McCarthy’s endorsement and $10,000 in support from his PAC. In recent weeks, Kean Jr. has also received the endorsement of another McCarthy outside group.
But now, it’s getting rocky for Kean Jr.’s number one supporter.
Axios broke down his extreme, right-wing vision under House GOP leadership, a full-frontal assault on the business community and a willingness to “empower the most conservative members of his conference.”
This report doesn’t even mention McCarthy’s opposition to restoring the SALT deduction, abortion rights, and the bipartisan infrastructure bill that provides funding to the essential Gateway Tunnel.
Heck, McCarthy is now in the news for refusing to cooperate with the January 6th committee – despite vowing on multiple occasions he would do so.
This spells bad news for the establishment choice, Kean Jr., who has hitched his wagon to McCarthy and other political insiders. As the NJ Globe pointed out – Kean’s ability to avoid vital questions about the Republican party seems to be running out with multiple legitimate primary challengers now set to take him on.
James Singer, DCCC Spokesperson
“Tom Kean Jr. hitched his political wagon to GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy – it’s now dragging him into the muck.”
