| New Yorkers are starting to see their health insurance costs soar for 2026 on the insurance marketplace.
But instead of doing anything to actually help New Yorkers, Mike Lawler is… you guessed it… signing onto a letter. How brave!
You might be wondering: where have I seen this move before? That would be for good reason. Let’s recall:
- Lawler signed onto a letter expressing concerns about steep cuts to Medicaid. Then what did he do? He voted for the largest cuts to Medicaid in history, which have already forced layoffs and cuts to vital health care programs in the Hudson Valley.
- Lawler signed onto a letter expressing concerns about rolling back clean energy tax credits. Then what did he do? He voted to take a sledgehammer to those tax credits, and now millions in investment are at risk in NY-17.
Now, Lawler is back to playing his same tired political games – this time signing a phony letter when in reality he chose to skip town instead of negotiating to prevent skyrocketing premiums. Lawler has also openly admitted that he wants to repeal the ACA tax credits, saying he wants to “phase them out.”
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Mike Lawler is supposed to fight for New Yorkers, but all he knows how to do is engage in a letter writing campaign. If Lawler really wanted to protect New Yorkers from skyrocketing health care costs, he could simply join Democrats in voting for their plan that would both extend the tax credits and reopen the government. But he won’t, and it’s his constituents who will pay the price.” |
