Herrell Abandons New Mexico for Conspiracists Across the Border

With new legislation, Herrell embraces the Canadian protesters driving up costs for American families

Over the weekend, in a stunt meant to curry favor with the radical right, Yvette Herrell announced she would introduce legislation to grant temporary asylum to participants in the Canadian trucker protest.

The announcement is a slap in the face to working families who are struggling in New Mexico and across the United States. The Canadian trucker protest, which has been fueled by anti-science conspiracy, blocked key bridges and crossings between the U.S. and Canada, stymying cargo at a time when supply chains are already stretched.

This is not the first time Herrell has aligned herself with anti-science conspiracy at the expense of her district. Last year, she was roundly condemned for pushing the horse dewormer Ivermectin as an effective treatment for COVID.

DCCC Spokesperson Maddy Mundy
“Instead of fighting for better economic opportunities for New Mexico, Yvette Herrell welcomes QAnon conspiracists who are blocking trade routes and driving up prices for working families in the United States. From her antivax lies to her trucker amnesty bill, Herrell is more interested in promoting dangerous and costly conspiracies than making life better for southern New Mexicans. Herrell should stop flirting with conspiracists across the border and start taking care of the hardworking families in her own district.”
