News & Observer headline: “NC farmers struggle with Trump-China trade war”
North Carolina families are struggling from higher tariffs, but that’s of no concern to Congressman George Holding (NC-02).
In an article titled “NC farmers struggle with Trump-China trade war,” Congressman Holding made the bold claim that a trade war with China is a good thing for North Carolina families.
“U.S. Rep George Holding (R-2nd) said he is not hearing complaints from farmers about Trump’s stand on China trade. ‘Many of the folks I’ve spoken with have expressed support for the president’s willingness to stand up to China,” he said in a statement. ‘I think people across the board realize China is an economic predator that has been taking advantage of our country for far too long.’”
Meanwhile, soybean prices in North Carolina have collapsed and North Carolina “farmers feel as if they’re the ones feeling the loss.”
Who exactly are the “folks” that the Congressman talking to? After all, Rep. Holding hasn’t held a public town hall in years. He’s derided his constituents and denigrated the concept of public forums as “opportunities to protest.”
The congressman’s disregard for his district is nothing new. He’s been assailed by the Raleigh News & Observer editorial board, who slammed him as “incurious.” Here’s what they had to say in 2017:
“A public servant has an obligation to serve the public, and that means in large part hearing what they have to say, particularly those who disagree with the party line Holding so obediently follows.”
Some things never change.
