House Democrats passed a lifesaving win for the American people today with historic legislation capping the out-of-pocket cost of insulin at $35 per month.
There are nearly 30 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the United States, and for the millions who require insulin, the prescription drug often makes the difference between life and death. However, studies found that nearly a quarter of diabetes patients have reportedly been forced to ration or even skip their medication due to skyrocketing costs.
Thanks to House Democrats taking decisive action, this legislation will help put an end to greedy pharmaceutical companies dramatically raising prices on insulin, and will be life-changing for the millions of Americans with diabetes who need insulin.
Skyrocketing prescription drug costs have been high among voters’ top concerns, and Democrats are delivering game-changing relief that Americans across the country are excited to see.
Across the aisle, 193 Republicans shamefully voted against this popular and common sense bill to protect Americans from rising costs.
“Every hard-working American knows prescription drug prices have gotten out of control, and Democrats are delivering real change that will not only lower costs, but save lives,” said DCCC Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney. “Democrats’ leadership on this popular and lifesaving legislation is going to make a huge difference for the American people, and we’ll be sure to remind voters exactly who’s responsible for this historic relief, and who tried to stand in the way.”
